A Legend comes to town.

Where my journey began.

I have been very fortunate. Over the years I have practiced the art of Shotokan Karate with a great many wonderful instructors, a lot of very dedicated students, in a wide variety of locations. One particular seminar however, stands out for two reasons. First, becasue of the two guest instructors. Second, becasue I would be returning for the first time in more than twenty-five years to the karate club where I began my own journey down the Shotokan road.

It was August 2008. The guest instructors were Kancho Hirokazu Kanazawa, 10th Dan, Chief Instructor, Shotokan Karate International Federation. And his son Sensei Nobuaki Kanazawa, 6th Dan, SKIF a world class competitor in his own right. It had been more than three decades since Kancho Kanzawa had last visited the Nanaimo Shotokan Karate Club.

Also in attendance that weekend was my very first sensei, Sam McGee, Founder of the Nanaimo Shotokan Karate Club. As well as my first Sempai, Narin Semple. I must say that it felt good to "return home" after all these years even if it was for such a short visit.

Below are a few photos of the event.
