RED BELT
Seventh Kyu
The
following are the basic 7th kyu examination requirements
of our dojo.
The kihon,
kata, and kumite listed here are in keeping with the
requirements, and standards, set out by Shihan Kenneth
Funakoshi, 9th Dan, of the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate
Association (FSKA) and these requirements are subject to
change at anytime.
All
students should familiarize themselves with the various
requirements for each belt level prior to turning in
their grading application. If you are unfamiliar with any
of the kihon, kata, or kumite required for your next belt
level, you should not attempt to grade, but instead
continue to train until you feel comfortable with all of
the techniques that are required.
Remember
Karate-Do
is for a lifetime, it is not a race, and your
personal
progress should never be treated as such.
7th Kyu
Examination Requirements
You will
find that the techniques listed below are given first in
English and then in Japanese.
While
commands are often given in both languages Japanese is
customarily the "language of the dojo" and as
such all students are encouraged to familiarize
themselves with the Japanese pronunciation of each word and it's
corresponding meaning.
Some of the
movements listed below that are described as "x
forward and then x back". This means that the
students must first move forward the required number of
steps, and then straight backwards the same number of
steps, so as to return down the same embusen (line) to
their starting point.
When the
student has finished all of the required movements and
they are back to their starting point, they should then
wait for the proper commands, (yame - naote) then stand
up and bow before standing in heiko dachi (ready stance).
